Clothes washer weird cabinet

Hey guys,

We have an old miele clothes washer which we bought from the previous house owner.

Unsure if this the right subreddit but i found a small (covered) hole in my washing machine, while giving it a good cleaning. The tag near the hole says CI in a triangle.

Does anyone have any clue what this might be used for?
